snow

we shouldnt have school tomorrow, just saying. my driver side car door was frozen shut today when i tried to open it. i had to go in through the back dorr and literaly kick my front door open. i then preceeded to scrape the ice off of my windows. i took a glance at the road and noticed that the whole street was covered with about a half inch of ice. it is only supposed to get worse through the night and we are under a winter weather advisory of romething until tomorrow evening. most people would assume that this means no school tomorrow, but we live in gahanna. gahanna just hates keeping the kids from going to school and getting a great education.... and crashing their cars on the way to school.

Short Story

“Three, Two, One. Here I come!” yelled Jake as he started his search
for Sarah and Kyle.
The three friends had been playing hide and seek since they had
first met three years ago when Jake was eight. The woods behind Kyle’s
house was the perfect place to hide in tons of hard to find hiding
places and never failed to entertained the trio. Only a few minutes
into the search, Jake could see Sarah’s bright red shoe sticking out
behind a fallen tree trunk.
“Found you!” Jake screamed.
“Shoot! I knew I should have followed Kyle; He always finds the good
spots.” Sarah complained.
“C’mon. Let’s go find him.” Jake said.
Sarah showed Jake the direction Kyle was headed and they went
forward. They walked until they came to a huge oak tree with a big
opening in the trunk. The back of the tree went straight into a wall
of dirt that was part of one of the many mountains that called the
woods home.
“Have you ever seen that before?” Sarah asked.
“No I don’t think I have.” Jake said. “Well let’s check it out. He’s
probably in there.
As they stepped in, they immediately noticed that the tree closed up
behind them.
“What’s going on!? How did that happen!?” Sarah Squealed.
“I don’t know! Look, there’s a light up ahead.” Jake noticed.
There was a blue light shinning from around the
corner of the path. They crept forward in the dark cave until they
came to the corner of the path. As Jake peered around the corner, a
face met his.
“Woah! The person yelled.
“Kyle! Is that you?” Jake quickly asked.
“Kyle? No, my name is Japa. The person declared.
As the person got up, Jake and Sarah realized that he had four legs
like an animal.
“W-what are you!? Sarah cried.
“Don’t be alarmed girl. I am a centaur. Im not going to eat you or
anything.” Japa said in what appeared to be a Scottish
accent.
“A centaur? Jake asked.
“Yes a centaur. Clearly you children have never seen my
kind. Thats beside the point. You are in immediate danger and need to
get out of here at this instance!” He barked.
“But we can’t.” Jake said. “The way we came closed.”
“Well then you are going to have to come with me. There is a war going
on here and your smack dab in the middle of it.” The centaur said.
“A war?” Asked Sarah. “Between who?
“The Black Army and the Bright Horizon military. There is no need for you to know facts, just stay close to me.”
“The Black Army? Bright Horizon Military? Where exactly are we?” Jake asked.
“We are currently in Gondarlin, which is located to the far East. This
is the last defense against the Black Army. If we lose here, all is
lost.” Japa said in a mournful tone. “Listen, we need to get out of
here before the caves are over run. There is a secret entrance into
the Gondarlin Castle’s servant quarters. If we can make it out of
here, we can get clear of the battle.”
“Okay.” Jake said. “We will just follow you and worry about getting home later.”
“Good. Now listen, this is going to be very dangerous. What ever you
do, just keep moving. Okay?”
“Okay.” Jake and Sarah said in unison.
“Okay, now quickly follow me!” Japa commanded.
The two children, lead by the centaur, traveled down the dark
corridor lead by a bright blue ball of light that Japa had conjured up
from just his hands. Confused and scared, Jake and Sarah followed Japa
until they came to a very large room where the cielling, which had
been just inches above the roughly eight foot tall centaurs head,
stretched to nearly fifty feet up. Inside the room was a raging battle
between tall bulky monsters with all black knight armor and men
wearing bright yellow armor. The fight was clearly going in the
monsters favor, and were cutting down the soldiers by the second.
“C’mon hurry, this way!” Japa yelled.
They ran through the battle, narrowly missing swords from both
parties until they reached a stairway.
“Up these stairs is the servants quarters. Once we make it up there,
all we have to do is go through the main hall and out the back of the
castle. The Black Army wont have made it that far yet.” Japa
explained. “Let’s go!”
They ran up the spiraling staircase until they got to the top. They
burst through the door and ran down the servants quarters hall way.
When they made it to the main hall, there was already a battle taking
place. Quickly, Japa led them to a detour through the kings room. When
they entered the room, there was a tall and muscular man with a great
white beard putting armor on.
“My king! I didn’t expect to find you still here! Thank the heavens
you are all right!” Japa yelled excitedly.
“Ah Japa. I see you were smart enough to remember my secret passage
out of the castle, and you have brought some friends along.” The king
said. “Do you still have the relic?”
“Yes your majesty, it is right here. Japa pulled out a small yellow
gem the size of a golf ball.
“I will try to figure out it’s importance once I make it out of the...”
As Japa was speaking, the gem began to light up the whole room.
“What’s happening to it?” The king asked.
“I... I don’t know” Squealed Japa. “I have never seen it do anything
like this before.”
As Japa and the king were talking, Sarah noticed that Jake whole body
was giving off a very bright and vibrant glow which resembled that of
the gem.
“Hey, guys! Look at Jake! Something is wrong!” She screamed.
“By the gods!” The king bellowed.
“Impossible! Could it be that the boy has activated the gems
powers!?” Japa yelled in astonishment.
“There is only one way to find out. Give the boy the gem.” The king demanded.
The closer Japa got to Jake, the brighter the gem and Jake got. When
Jake took the gem, the whole castle burst with the brightest light the
world had ever seen. The very instance this happened, every foul beast
that was in the Black Army perished, leaving the world and returning
to the darkness that they came from. Confused, the soldiers hesitated,
then all began to cheer. The war was over.
“By the Gods’, he did it. He activated the Gem of  Light! How some
boy who I came across by chance could save us all from damnation is a
blessing! Thank you my friend. You have saved us all!” Jaba screamed
with delight.
When Jaba turned around to thank Jake however, he was gone. When Jake
awoke, he saw  Sarah and Kyle staring at him.
“Dude are you serious? I don’t think I have ever seen someone fall
asleep counting down in hide and seek. This is sad my friend.” Kyle
laughed.
Confused, Jake went home for the night and got ready for bed. When he
took off his pants, he heard something fall. Looking down he saw it; a
small yellow gem, the size of a golf ball laying right on his floor.
As he picked it up, it began to glow a very bright color illuminating
the whole room...

Weekend

This weekend was fun. After school on Friday, my friends and I played basketball for a few hours. After that, seven of us went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The movie was awesome. I had watched every Harry Potter movie the week leading up to the movie so I would remember what happened and I was glad I did. I cant wait until the next movie comes out. It will be sad though after the movie comes out since there will be no more Harry Potter movies.

Zombies

Zombie movies are cool. I also very much enjoy zombie video games. My favorite zombie movie is Shaun of the dead. My favorite zombie video game is resident evil 2. Some times the zombies are fast. Other times they are slow and barely able to walk. Obviously I would rather have the slow ones in case of a real zombie attck. By far the most importan fact about zombies is that the only way to kill them is by destroying the brain. It is also important to know that you cant get bite or scratched or you will become a zombie yourself. Well now you know a couple survival facts about zombie attacks and that I like zombies.

florida

Florida seems like a good place to move to when im old and retired. its warm all year round and is always close to the beach. I plan on buying a boat and going out to the water every day and just relaxing. The only bad thing about florida is hurricanes. the only thing we have to worry about here in ohio is tornadoes and that never happens in gahanna. It would also be weird having christmas without snow. But i still plan on moving there when i retire and basicaly chilling for the rest of my life.

My weekend

This weekend was pretty fun. Saturday morning, I woke up and went to tennis practice. Then I went home and watched college football. That night, my friends and I met up and went driving around all night looking at old abandoned houses. Around 3 am, we decided to go to steak and shake of course. When we arrived, there was a suprisingly high amount of people there, and almost everyone was dressed up in some halloween costume. We ate and got back to my friends house at 4 am and went to bed. Not too bad of a halloween.

This I Believe

"You'll never know unless you try it.", my mom always said. This might be the single best piece of advice I have ever recieved. I would never have thought that a saying so simple and common could mean so much.  I waited far too long before I actualy started following this advice and would give anything if I could go back in time and listen to my mom. I don't think any one can fully live life until they try things that they are unsure of. I don't know how you could go through life by just assuming you will not like something. Ever since I have been in high school, I have tried countless things that I never would have when I was younger just because I always thought I would not like it. As it turns out, many things that I thought I would not like, I ended up loving. I think this is true for a lot of people. The more you try things, the better chance you will find something you really like. It could be something as simple as a food or drink to somthing as important as a job.  I can think of no better example than tennis.
I had always thought of tennis as a very boring sport that no body liked. The summer going into my junior year, one of my friends had been watching tennis on ESPN and really wanted me to play with him. I thought it would be very boring but I gave it a shot. We found some old tennis rackets in my garage and a couple of tennis balls and went down to the school to play. It was quite clear that neither one of us had ever played a game of tennis before, but I actually found myself having a great time. The wierd thing was that by the time we were done, I had actually gotten a lot better than when we started. After we finished I decided that I wanted to play again, so I got some of my other friends to start playing a few days of the week. By the time summer was over, I could easily beat any of my friends and wanted to play tennis all the time.
When spring rolled around, my girlfriend and I started playing a few times a week. Then when summer came, I decided that I wanted to do lessons, so I signed up for lessons three days a week with the high school players. I had progressed rapidly for such a short amount of time and my coaches were telling me that I should take winter lessons and start talking to colleges that I could play for. Now I am taking lessons that will last until spring when the high school season starts. I have also talked to the Otterbien men's tennis coach and after hitting with some of his players, he has informed me that I should be able to make their college team.
The point of all this is that I would have never been able to play what is now my favorite sport for a college, if I would have decided not to try it. I could have just as easily said no and assumed I would not have liked it. This is not the only thing that I thought I would hate and ended up liking. I played volleyball for the school for two years and I thought it would be boring before I tried it. I also decided to try out for punter freshman year on the football team and ended up getting the position. There are so many things that I love today that I never would have thought I would before I tried them. I think that if every one believed in this advice, there would be a lot more happy people in the world. Do you really want to miss an oppurtunity that could change your life for the better, just because you did'nt feel like trying something? I'm sure that there are tons of things in the world that certain people would love, but they don't even know they would love it because they will never try it. I believe that you should try as many things as possible and do not pass by oppurtunites to try new things. You may end up regeting it later.

Vacation

Aside from the ride to and from Florida, my vacation was awesome. Every day we were there, we went to universal studios and islands of adventure. They are both theme parks that are located right next to eachother and our pass was usable for both parks. We also got to go out to eat every night which was awesome. The resort we stayed at was really cool too. Our room was right next to the lake and we played free tennis and putt putt almost every day. This was definetley the best vacation I have ever had.

Drive to Florida

The drive to Florida sucked. I always hate driving to Florida. We left after fourth period and drove till like two in the morning. We stayed the night at a not so sanitary hotel so I decided to sleep in the van. We started driving again at seven in the morning and arrived at our hotel in Florida at around noon. I was cramped into a very small space the whole trip so I basically forgot how to use my legs when we got to our condo. 16 hours of sitting in a seat and looking out the window is about as excitting as it sounds.

The Ocean

The ocean scares me. I have pretty much always been afraid of the ocean. I think the first time I actualy thought about how scary the ocean is, was when I saw Jaws for the first time. Ever since then, every time I go to the beach, I can only think about a giant shark coming up and eating me. I have also been on boats a few times in the ocean and I was definetly afraid of falling into the water. Its not just sharks I think about, there are worse things that go through my head when I think about being in the ocean. I basicaly figure that as soon as I get in the water, something can see me and I can't see it. When your in the ocean, you can"t see anything that is actualy under water. Something could be swimming right under me and I would'nt know. So in conclusion, the ocean scares me. The end.

Florida

Every year my family and I go on vacation to Florida. I love going on vacation. Every year I have a great time and I never get bored. This year we are going in October and I am bringing my girlfriend, Charlotte. We Usually leave early in the morning and drive until late that night. We stop at a hotel and continue the trip for a few more hours in the morning. The trip in all takes about sixteen hours. The first place we go to is the beach on in a place called treasure island. we stay there for a couple of days and enjoy the beach, then we drive for a couple of hours to Orlando. Orlando is my favorite part of the trip, there we go to a bunch of theme parks such as: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World, Busch Gardens and sometimes Disney World. We also get to go out to eat for every meal we have, which I greatly enjoy. After the week is over, we start the long ride back to Gahanna, which means going back to my favorite place, school. :(

My Summer

This summer was amazing. I decided I wanted to try to play tennis at the beginning of summer. I loved it from the first time I played it. I asked my girlfriend, who is very good at tennis, to play with me me just about everyday over the summer. I played for about an hour or two a day. In the beginning of July, i decided to start taking group lessons with a bunch of high school students here in Gahanna. I loved it and could'nt wait for lessons every other day. By the end of the summer I had actually gotten good at the sport. I plan on playing indoors all through the winter and trying out for the team in the Spring. Tennis is'nt the only thing i did this Summer though. I also went on vacation with my girlfriend and her family to Lake Eerie. We stayed at a rented house right next to the lake; it was awesome. For a whole week we just relaxed and went to the lake and enjoyed the local entertainment. Near the end of the trip, we went to Cedar Point, which was about ten minutes from the house. The trip was really fun and I plan on going again next year. The rest of Summer is what you would expect; a lot of sleeping and relaxing. I think this was my best Summer yet and I can't wait for the next one.
